Floating cities have existed for more than a hundred years, in the guise of cruise ship. The largest cruise ship in the world at the moment is the Oasis of the Seas owned by the shipping company Royal Caribbean International. The ship can accommodate a total of 6 296 passengers and 2 165 crew, the size of a small village. The ship, which had its maiden voyage on 5 December 2009, is 360m long and its displacement is approximately 100 000 tons. That makes the vessel twice as large as the Titanic, which had a displacement of 52 000 tons. In the middle of the ship is Central Park, an enclosed garden with more than 12 000 plants and 56 trees. Views over the garden are provided from the Rising Tide Bar, which can move up and down over a height of tree decks.
