On October 20th 2011 under great public interest, the newly-built floating restaurant called ‘De Limonadefabriek’ (The Lemonade Factory) on the river Lek in Streefkerk (NL) was towed 10 km from its site of construction on the wharf in Groot-Ammers to the marina in Streefkerk. There it replaces the old ‘chalet-like’ restaurant. The floating restaurant offering a bistro, cooking studio and six luxurious hotel rooms at water level was built according to the design of the young Dutch architect Simon Hanemaaijer and has elements of an industrial monument. For example, a tall chimney and a serrated roof that were common features in factory buildings. Read more:
